London Monaco Ride: Chapter 1

It’s late and I’m wicked jet lagged, but I can’t go to bed without at least posting a bit of a ramble on the fantastic, long-awaited, start of this much bally-hooed, 1,000-mile ride from London to Monaco. And as you well know, we started at the Tower of London, where my totally game septuagenarian step-mother-in-law simply said in her wonderfully british and slightly mischievous way, “Oh, yes….You’re riding from a prison to a Palace!”

Did we ever! And honestly, this has already been bigger and better than I expected. The peleton was well over 50-people strong today. The London-based-cycling tour company La Fuga‘s level of organization, professionalism, and experience appears to be unmatched.

And the ride has already helped the smart and fun team from Blue Marine Federation raise over £150,000 to help Blue Marine continue to work to save the oceans from over fishing.

Not only did we log some wonderful miles down hedgerowed lanes and through charming English villages, and speeding through the Channel Tunnel in our very own bus.

We are now comfortably ensconced in a charming chateau-esque hote in the French town of St Omer…I started the day with a few Simon Le Bon selfies.

Watch this space. One hundred miles are on tap for tomorrow,
