When the going gets tough, the tough go to St. Barth

The Les Voiles Des St Barth (and the Caribbean 600 for that matter) are relative newcomers to the spring Caribbean racing circuit, but man, they really seem to have figured it out. Antigua’s offshore instant classic—the Caribbean 600—kicks off the season with all the fireworks of the Daytona 500 celebrating the start of the NASCAR season (or so I am told).

And from what I’ve heard, the Les Voiles Des St. Barth is fast becoming the must-race regatta of the year because of its high-octane entry list that descend upon the exclusive luxury of this magical French Caribbean island like no other race, because, so I’ve been told many times, St. Barth is like no other Caribbean island.

As you might have guessed I’ve been to lots of Caribbean islands, but, I’ve never been to St Barths, until now. Next monday to be exact. And I gotta admit, I’m a wee excited.

The plan is to get my hands dirty and my GoPro wet on one or two boats that will be racing. And I might even get lucky enough to get a ride on the mighty muscle car that is Comanche.

Or, maybe I’ll be able to talk my way back on to the Ferrari that is Phaedo³?

And don’t forget, a healthy fleet of Maxi 72’s will be duking it out for St Barth bragging rights.

And the current Rolex Yachtsman of the Year Steve Benjamin will be racing in a competitive TP52 class aboard his new Spookie against last year’s class winner Vesper, steered by venture capitalist Jim Swartz and assisted by his long-time navigator Gavin Brady.

And don’t even get me started about the on-land stuff. I’m told the beaches are amazing, the night life is “lively,” and the infinity pools go on for…infinity.

So, if you’re looking for a little escape from the tyranny of the mundane (and to learn more about the rock stars, and movie stars, and captains of industry that come to race around this special Caribbean island in early Spring), watch this space. And Instagram too.

I’m really grateful for the chance to immerse myself in all that is “Les Voiles,” and to share it with all you folks at home. And call me crazy but, this trip feels like it’s gonna be special.

And as you can also see in this little video teaser, the scenery is gonna be spectacular.

Watch this space.
